No Mother of a special needs child should have to go through over a decade of family court filings, court dates, poverty, homelessness, stalking, harassment by an entire family just for seeking safety for herself and her son and trying to advocate for people to accept and understand the child’s special needs.

I am raising money for my longtime friend who came here from another country who has yet to have the opportunity to return home for even a visit. She has missed opportunities to be able to visit her Mother while she was in intensive care when the family feared she may die, she has missed opportunities to visit her brothers, her nieces, to be able to hug her loved ones in their last days. She is here in the USA with no family and very little support. At this time in her life she is in desperate need of financial support through our legal system to secure her child’s safety and wellbeing.

Over a decade ago she left her marital home with their special needs child headed for a women’s shelter out of fear for her and her child’s safety. Her battle began that day, and 11 and a half years later, she is still fighting and needs our help . She is up against a very influential family in finances, religion and community. They have made her and their grandchild homeless when he was a toddler, without regard for either of their wellbeing, and put her through absolute hell and back for over a decade. Why? Because she spoke up and reported the physical and emotional violence she was enduring. Because of it, they have done nothing but tear her down instead of offering support and holding their son accountable for his actions.

After his arrest for Domestic Violence, and after many many court proceedings, custody evaluations, restraining orders to keep them safe, their divorce was final and she was left caring for their special needs toddler at the time while her ex-husband and father of their child left the state to pursue a relationship on the east coast. Since that day over 8 years ago her ex has not had visitations with their child. His own choice. Five years ago her ex decided after he remarried and moved back in with his parents, living with his new wife in their basement (yes, you read correct), that he “deserved his child” and he accused my friend of being the abuser and he wanted her to be “held accountable”. Since September 17, 2019 her ex has been fighting with her in the courts for full custody of their child that he hasn’t had any meaningful visitation with for over 8 years. The court ruled that in order for him to have any visitation with the child, that he had to complete a series of therapies and to date he has made no effort to complete them in any manner which would be in the best interest of their child. There have also been other orders of the court that her ex has not followed, yet he pursues this notion that Mom is abusive and the child is in great danger. All of which are absolute lies to the court.
